Virginia Beach Transit Extension Study

Hampton Roads Transit, in partnership with the City of Virginia Beach, is in the early stages of conducting the Virginia Beach Transit Extension Study (VBTES), an evaluation of transit options for the community. The study will examine transit alternatives for a fixed guide way connection from the eastern end of The Tide [a.k.a. Light Rail] in Norfolk at Newtown Road to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront area along the Norfolk Southern Corporation’s inactive railroad right of way. The VBTES will be completed in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended.

You are invited to attend one of the following public meetings that will introduce the study and provide opportunity to submit public comment:

September 9, 2009

Princess Anne High School

4400 Va. Beach Blvd.

Virginia Beach, VA 23462

6:00 – 8:00 PM

September 10, 2009

Va. Beach Convention Center

1000 19’h Street

Virginia Beach, VA 23451

This will be the first of several public meetings held during the course of the study, which is expected to take between 12 – 18 months. These first meetings will serve as a kick-off to the public involvement program and will describe the overall study process, the study schedule, and the required technical analysis to be conducted. The Project Team will present attendees with information about the transit alternatives under consideration and the potential impacts of each alternative to be evaluated.

All information distributed at the public meetings will also be made available on the project web page, http://www.goHRT.com/vbtes. You may also submit comments through the online comment form on the web page through mail by sending written correspondence to HRT 3400 Victoria Boulevard, Hampton, VA 23661, Attn: Marie Arnt, VBTES or by calling Marie Arnt, Public Outreach Coordinator, at 222-6000 ext. 6291.

If you would like to be added to our contact database so that we may keep you updated on the study, please fill out the online comment form on the web page.

We look forward to your input throughout the study process.

Sincerely, Michael S. Townes, President /CEO
