Virginia Beach Transit Extension Study
Hampton Roads Transit, in partnership with the City of Virginia Beach, is in the early stages of conducting the Virginia Beach Transit Extension Study (VBTES), an evaluation of transit options for the community. The study will examine transit alternatives for a fixed guide way connection from the eastern end of The Tide [a.k.a. Light Rail] in Norfolk at Newtown Road to the Virginia Beach Oceanfront area along the Norfolk Southern Corporation’s inactive railroad right of way. The VBTES will be completed in accordance with the National Environmental Policy Act of 1969 (NEPA), as amended.You are invited to attend one of the following public meetings that will introduce the study and provide opportunity to submit public comment:

This will be the first of several public meetings held during the course of the study, which is expected to take between 12 – 18 months. These first meetings will serve as a kick-off to the public involvement program and will describe the overall study process, the study schedule, and the required technical analysis to be conducted. The Project Team will present attendees with information about the transit alternatives under consideration and the potential impacts of each alternative to be evaluated.
All information distributed at the public meetings will also be made available on the project web page, http://www.goHRT.com/vbtes.
