The sand truck haul to renourish the beach between 2428 Ocean Shore Crescent and 2317 Mariners Mark Way is underway. The contractor, Virginia Carolina Civil, will be excavating about 84,000 cubic yards of beach-quality sand from the sand stockpile adjacent to the Lynnhaven Municipal Boat Ramp facility and the Maple Street sand stockpile site. The sand will be hauled via dump truck and placed on the beach. The contractor will access the beach at the Oak Street beach access entrance. Earth-moving equipment will grade the sand to build the beach.
The contractor’s work hours are between 7:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. Work hour adjustments may occur if deemed necessary by the City of Virginia Beach Department of Public Works. Expect to see an increase in dump truck traffic along Oak Street. Sections of the beach will be closed for the public’s safety and to allow the contractor to complete the beach renourishment work. The contractor will have safety personnel on-site for public safety. The project is to be completed by June 14, 2026, (weather or other logistical reasons permitting).

Thank you for the update. I had read this on the city page, and was wondering why Cape Story neighborhood was omitted again from the sand replenishment? Are there plans to ever replace or restore sand east of the Delta hotel ?
Hello and thank you for the comment. Currently the City has no plans to place sand on Cape Henry Beaches east of Seagate Colony Condominiums. The City says that the beach east of the Delta Hotel to the State Park isn’t currently losing sand. In fact they say this area is accumulating sand. They plan to hold off adding sand to this area while they address the sections of the public beach that are losing sand. The last time the Cape Story section of beach received sand was in 2010. If we see that our beach is losing sand similar to the area being replenished now, the Civic Association will request that a replenishment be added to the budget as a new CIP. Just an FYI, Ocean Park west of the Lesner Bridge is scheduled for sand replenishment at the end of 2026. Also, no City projects can place sand on the State Park beach area. They have some sections with a very limited amount of beach. Bad for them, but good for us I guess.
