Cape Story’s 4th of July Parade/Brunch & Fireworks!!! Parade theme – “Fabulous 50”
Cape Story’s 50th Annual 4th of July Parade/Brunch & Fireworks!!!
Thursday July 4th
Parade 10am – Noon @ Cape Story Neighborhood & Park
Fireworks – 9:20pm @ Cape Story Beach
(Rain Date for Fireworks is Friday July 5th)
PARADE THEME – “Fabulous 50”
The amazing Cape Story parade, like the City of Virginia Beach, is celebrating its 50th anniversary with a “Fabulous 50” theme. Bring your old photos to share, dress up in a past parade costume, create a generational float of all the family members that have participated over the years. Let’s make this a grand celebration.
This year’s parade and brunch will take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon) on Thursday July 4th. The parade route will start on Beech at the bike path, proceed down Beech to Poinciana, follow Poinciana to Bayberry, turn left on Bayberry and end in the neighborhood park. All bike riders, floats and marchers need to line up for the parade between 9:30am – 9:45am. Please be careful spilling out onto Shore Drive. If you have to, line your float up in Food Lion’s parking lot and we will work you into the parade as it starts moving.
As in past years, trophies will be given for Most Original, Most Patriotic and Best Theme. The parade will be followed by a brunch in the park. There will also be biscuits, doughnuts, fruit and patriotic tunes.
As she has done in years past, an ice cream truck will also be provided courtesy of LYNN HUME, RE/MAX Allegiance.
This year’s fireworks show will be presented by the local Virginia Beach company, VA Pyro. The display will consist of 625 shells and will be launched around 9:20 pm on Thursday July 4th from the beach at First Landing State park. The rain date will be Friday July 5th at the same time. If it looks like rain, please check your emails and www.capestory.org for updates.
Please remember – Storage, handling and use of fireworks without a permit from the Fire Marshal’s Office is a violation of City ordinance 12-43.2 and is a Class 1 Misdemeanor. Class 1 Misdemeanors are punishable by up to a $2500 fine and/or 12 months in jail.
Volunteers are needed for the 4th of July brunch
- Brunch set-up, Brunch Clean-up, Brunch servers – Please Arrive at the park at 9:30am to help.

Cape Story’s 15th Annual Spring Fling was a Blast
Cape Story’s 15th Annual Spring Fling
After having to postpone once, the weather was beautiful for our 15th annual Spring Fling. About 100 children and parents enjoyed food and fun. In fact, we ate 140 hamburgers and 100 hot dogs during the three hour event. DJ Dave from Astro DJs kept the party shaking with rockin’ tunes and games. Miss Kitty from Bobby the Clown Agency was kept very busy making great balloon animals and painting unique designs on many smiling faces. Snow cones and popcorn where graciously provided by LYNN HUME, RE/MAX Allegiance. Residents also enjoyed chips, salads and drinks courtesy of the Cape Story by the Sea Civic Association. Yummy desserts, salads and fruit were also brought and shared by neighbors. Many kids and parents got wet competing in the water balloon toss and tested their strength at the tug-o-war. Parents even got into the festivities by competing in the sack race. Winners of the events were rewarded with gift certificates to AMC and Regal theatres.
Event winners were:
- Kids Sack Race – Jordan Weiner
- Adults Sack Race – Steve Fisher & Sean LaCroix – Tie
- Hula Hoop – Meredith Bugg-1st Place; Chris Peters-2nd Place
- Water Balloon Toss #1– Mason Solomon & Jason Wang
- Water Balloon Toss #2 – Jordan Weiner & Patrick Smith
- Basket Ball Free Throw (9yr and under) – Chris Peters-1st Place; Sophia Fisher-2nd Place
