Cape Story’s 15th Annual Spring Fling
After having to postpone once, the weather was beautiful for our 15th annual Spring Fling. About 100 children and parents enjoyed food and fun. In fact, we ate 140 hamburgers and 100 hot dogs during the three hour event. DJ Dave from Astro DJs kept the party shaking with rockin’ tunes and games. Miss Kitty from Bobby the Clown Agency was kept very busy making great balloon animals and painting unique designs on many smiling faces. Snow cones and popcorn where graciously provided by LYNN HUME, RE/MAX Allegiance. Residents also enjoyed chips, salads and drinks courtesy of the Cape Story by the Sea Civic Association. Yummy desserts, salads and fruit were also brought and shared by neighbors. Many kids and parents got wet competing in the water balloon toss and tested their strength at the tug-o-war. Parents even got into the festivities by competing in the sack race. Winners of the events were rewarded with gift certificates to AMC and Regal theatres.
Event winners were:
Additional Spring Fling Thank You!!!
Thanks to Chris Doddy and Don Lawson keeping up with the hungry crowds by cooking up the burgers and dogs. A special thanks goes to the many volunteers, Teri Doddy, Jenifer & Kyra Solomon, Empsy Munden, Billy Tetlak, Alex Groover, Quinn Wiess, Sara Lant and John & Lorraine Anderson for set-up, serving and clean-up.
Current forecast show Virginia Beach in a Thunder Storm Warning area. Rather than risk setting up and getting washed out or dangerous lightening conditions, we have decided to hold the Spring Fling on the rain date of Sunday May 26, 2013. Here is the new date/time information. Weather predictions look good for next week with 73F and 0% chance of rain, but of course it’s stil 7 days away.
SEE YOU THERE
City Park between Bayberry Street-Sandalwood Road on the BikeTrail
Cape Story residents are concerned that the City’s interim plug is in the wrong spot and will not protect all 40 homes in the tidal flooding zone.

The Cape Story Carolers” will be out in force on Thursday, Dec. 20th. Singers, roadies and groupies: meet at the home of Tracy & Ginnie Stover – 2214 Oak St.- starting around 6:00 pm to pick up lyric sheets and have a cup of spiced cider before we hit the streets. If you know someone in Cape Story who would appreciate being caroled to, please drop us an email: Tips, bribes and refreshments always joyfully accepted.
Teri Doddy is coordinating a special CSBTS cookie delivery to the military men and women at Fort Story and Little Creek as well as for our local Fire Station on Christmas. This is YOUR OPPORTUNITY to support the troops in a very COOL way. If you’d like to help call or email Teri at teredod7@aol.com or 621-6724 and get YOUR cookies added to the batches being delivered for a special homemade THANK YOU!!
It’s that time of year when we open our hearts and help those who are less fortunate. We are “adopting” five local military families for the holidays. Please contact Teri Doddy (teredod7@aol.com 621-6724) before purchasing items so that we don’t have everyone buying for the same family.
Please make your drop-offs to Teri at 2219 Bayberry Street. Please wrap presents and indicate the family and family member the gift is for, and the type of gift (toy, clothing, books, etc). All food and gifts are needed by Sunday Dec. 16th.
Thanks again for all your support!
