CSBTS 2020 4th of July Parade Cancelled

Dear Cape Story Residents,

After much discussion by the Civic Association officers, we are sorry to say that the CSBTS July 4th Parade and festivities in the park sponsored by the CSBTS civic league will not be held this year.

State and city government mandates and the ongoing effects of COVID-19 have not lessened enough at this time to hold a large social event of this nature safely and effectively.  We do not want to put the volunteers, participants, and the many visitors that come here to attend, at risk.  Looking at this from another perspective, we also do not want to create unnecessary angst for those who take the precautions seriously enough to have prevented their children from participating with the others this year.

This is a fun neighborhood, and we as an organization have no authority over and will not interfere with any impromptu gatherings or celebrations- but please do use caution and be courteous to the other residents over the holiday weekend however you choose to celebrate.

Best always,

Diana Albis, on behalf of the CSBTS Civic Association Officers

MARVEL AT THIS YEAR’S PARADE THEME – “THE AVENGERS”

This year’s parade will take place from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm (noon) on Thursday July 4th. The parade route will start on Beech at the bike path, proceed down Beech to Poinciana, follow Poinciana to Bayberry, turn left on Bayberry and end in the neighborhood park. All bike riders, floats and marchers need to line up for the parade between 9:30am – 9:45am. Please be careful spilling out onto Shore Drive. If you have to, line your float up in Food Lion’s parking lot and we will work you into the parade as it starts moving.

Please be aware that Beech, Poinciana, and Bayberry will be closed to vehicle traffic during the parade procession, so plan accordingly.

As in past years, trophies will be given for Most Original, Most Patriotic and Best Theme. You can contact Todd Solomon, Event Coordinator, at todd@sdcc.info or 757-667-8533 with any questions regarding the event.

Additional notice from the Cape Story by the Sea Civic Association President

The CSBTS July 4th parade/brunch is just around the corner! Here is some important information, especially for those who are new to the neighborhood-

Every year, the Cape Story Civic Association organizes a July 4th parade that winds through the neighborhood and ends at the park. It includes floats, bikers, walkers, emergency services and military representatives, and other guests who might want to join the festivities. This year’s theme is “Avengers”, so we should see an interesting collection of characters- awards are given for several categories!

Parade participants- meet on Beech Street, near the intersection of the Cape Henry Trail/multi-use path by 9:45am, for a 10am start. The route goes down Beech, around Poinciana, up Bayberry and into the neighborhood park, for a post-parade brunch! The event opens with the Pledge of Allegiance and patriotic songs, followed by more live music (Bob & Liz, and Tracy Stover), brunch food courtesy of the Cape Story Civic Association, and an ice cream truck provided by Lynn Hume/REMAX Allegiance! If you have any additional goodies you wish to share at this informal gathering, please drop them off at the park that morning!

Just a few requests to make this enjoyable for everyone-
1) If you or your friends are into water-balloon fights, please be courteous, and make sure this is limited to eager participants, either in the parade or on the sidelines. It’s a fun battle, especially in hot weather, but not everyone welcomes being pelted or soaked.

2) At the end of the parade, please do not stop or congregate in the street at the park entrance. Off-load floats and cars quickly and move into the park area- there is plenty of room! Remember, the food line won’t open until people are in the park and we kick off the event!

3) Finally, please make sure that any bikes, strollers, etc. are stored off of the official trail/path, as people not participating still need to be able to get through the public park.

Let’s hope for good weather and lots of fun!
