  • Membership for 2010 – SPRING NEWSLETTER has membership application for 2010—JOIN NOW for $10 for whole family –MEMBERSHIP is open to ALL (Owners and Renters) persons living in Cape Story. Please provide READABLE email to be added to or to remain on the CSBTS Email List.  Chance for $100 drawing with each membership application.  Application attached to this agenda
  • The Sandalwood Walkover– work started plan ADA-American Disabilities Act- requirements to be met and plan to be finished by Memorial Day.            The Va. Pilot reported Fishing Pier to be rebuilt also

  • VBgov web site survey request- citizens survey requested by City to improve Web site, online at www.VBgov.com/surveys  – click on “Redesign VBgov.com” – available until May 16, 2010
  • Shore Drive Safety Initiative subcommittee meetings in May-David Williams, Shore Drive Safety Initiative 2010 Chairman    CSBTS and CHS were the two primary civic associations behind the 35 mph on our section of Shore Drive.   Attached is a link for the Shore Drive Advisory Committee 2006 Safety Task Force Recommendations to provide background information and basis for future SDSI initiatives.   http://www.vbgov.com/file_source/dept/webteam/Document/shore_drive_safety_task_force_report_to_SDAC.pdf

Volunteer Opportunities at First Landing State Park

ADMINISTRATIVE:

Front Office Receptionist.  May 12-14, 17-20, 24-27 from 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.  Answering phone, copying, fielding guests questions.

Data Entry. Any day.  One day per week, 2 hours.

Data base design.  Need a volunteer with Microsoft Access experience to design a data base to track rental inventory.

Event Planning Assistant. One day per week, 2 - 4 hours. Research and contact potential venders/sponsors.  Assist with event set-up and take-down.


VISITOR SERVICES:
Interpretive Volunteer. Summer season, mostly weekends and holidays (Memorial Day, 4th of July and Labor Day).  Assisting with Swamp Stop, crabbing, Geoquest, Wonder Bugs, Moonlight Movie programs.  Leading Bald Cypress Hike, Seaside Creations, other volunteer interests may be considered.  Volunteer lead programs will require training by interpreters.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS:

Smokey the Bear Day, May 8th - 10:00 am - 4:30 pm.  Game and craft supervision, runners and man booth.

Great American Backyard Campout, June 26th - June 27th - 2:00 pm Saturday to noon Sunday - this is an overnight event.  Camping experienced volunteers needed to assist military families make a meaningful connection with nature.  Assist park staff with special camping programs, demonstrations, cookout and campfire story-telling and sing-alongs.

Junior Rangers Camp July 12 - 16 (Ages 4-6) and July 19th  - 23rd (Ages 7 - 12).  9:00 am - 1:30 pm Monday - Friday. Assist park staff and camp participants explore the forests, beach and trails of FLSP.  There will be additional Junior Ranger camps this summer, too.

Dog Days of Summer, July 17th 11:00 am - 4:30 pm. Assist park staff with event set up and event activities.

Fall Festival, October 16th 2:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Assist park staff with event set up and event activities.

MAINTENANCE:

Trail maintenance will be conducted soon.  Dates have not been set yet as we are waiting for standing water to recede.  I will keep a list of those interested in assisting with this project.
