comments from Nancy:
Please note a couple of questions/issues:
For Family B – there were several very specific items that I did not include on the list I am emailing only because I would hate for the gifts to be duplicated many times over.  I am happy to add these back to the list if you think I should – just let me know. Here are the items:

Child 1 – Hannah Montana twin sheet set

Child 2 – Male 6 – Bike (does anyone have a good used one we can fix up?)

Child 3 – “Flag Football set” found at Wal-Mart

Child 4 – Female 23 months – Toddler Bed (she is currently sleeping with her 9 yr old sister)  Another good used item?

Child 5 – Gym set that lights up
Parents – King Size bedspread (gift certificate for them might be better on this)
·        Last year I used so many cardboard boxes (mostly liquor boxes) and plastic sacks to transport the food and gifts – I thought it might be a good idea to make a general request for any type of re-usable plastic container, anything from garage sales, plastic tubs, laundry baskets, trash cans, new or used – anything to deliver the items in that could be used at their home.  I didn’t want everyone in the neighborhood showing up with plastic crates but each of you might mention it to anyone that asks.  And – if you have any…. I think that is it for now – let me know what else you need!! Thanks – Nancy

Please wrap presents and indicate the family and family member the gift is for, and the type of gift (toy, clothing, books, etc). We will be delivering the gifts in mid December so all food and gifts are needed by Friday December 12th. Thanks again for all your support!

CSBTS Holiday Giving

Holiday Giving first planning meeting for  OCT 12 was CANCELED due to time constraints and only items needing timely discussion are as follows:

(1) Do the same thing we did last year – working through the VB Public School contact to get families that would remain anonymous; and/or

(2)   Add to this the possibility of asking for a family directly through Social Services that we would have direct contact with.

Nancy Snyder’s (chairperson) suggestion is to do the combination (as well as work with anyone we find within our community that needs help) because some people last year really requested the ability to make contact with the family.   Depending on how much and what we receive as donations – we could add to that if we were able. Please Email Nancy at nancy.snyder@aig.com  your comments and suggestions and/or attend Monday Oct 13th CSBTS meeting at 7:30pm at the Va Beach Hotel Resort & Conference Hotel

9/9 Public Meeting Re: Preservation Plan

CSBTS has not taken any position on this proposal yet.  Citizens are welcomed to comment at the 9/9 meeting:

Virginia Beach City Council to Hear Public Comment on Proposed Housing and Neighborhood Preservation Plan

Virginia Beach City Council invites interested members of the public to comment on all aspects of the proposed Virginia Beach Housing and Neighborhood Preservation Plan (the Plan) at its regular formal session on Tuesday, September 9. The Plan is a report of recommendations to preserve, renew and enhance the homes and neighborhoods in Virginia Beach and to enhance neighborhood character.

Developed by the Planning Commission Subcommittee on Preservation, the Plan provides recommendations that address a collaborative process for neighborhood preservation and improvement on an ongoing, sustainable basis. It also addresses the types of tools that could be implemented to promote and provide incentives for the voluntary improvement of housing.

The full Plan can be found on the Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation’s Web page at http://www.VBgov.com/housing, by selecting “Virginia Beach Housing and Neighborhood Preservation Plan” under “Hot Topics.”

City Council will vote on whether or not to adopt the Virginia Beach Housing and Neighborhood Preservation Plan on September 23. For more information, please call Department of Housing and Neighborhood Preservation Director Andrew M. Friedman at (757) 385-5752 or Housing Program Coordinator Lanitha Hudson at (757) 385-5734
