Found: Prescription eyeglasses

FOUND:  On Poinciana Dr. between Maple St. and Sandalwood Rd. PRESCRIPTION EYEGLASSES.
Narrow rectangular lenses set in a Ray-Ban frame. Based on my own eyes, I think they’re for someone mildly-to-moderately farsighted.

If they’re yours (you know if they are or not, and they’re of no use to you if they aren’t), then drop me a line at mike@mailbox.asoundidea.com .

I know how much I’d hate to lose mine…

Pax,

VB Dept. of Health wants your input

The City’s Dept. of Public Health is looking for your input:

Received 6/19/08:

As background, the Virginia Beach Department of Public Health is conducting a community-wide Wellness Survey to find out what health issues are most important to the Virginia Beach community.  (An article was in the 5.25.08 Beacon.)

The survey is very important and is a chance for the community to have input on health priorities in the city and to let us know what health concerns are most on residents’ minds. After the results are collected, the Department of Health, along with a community task force, will formulate and create goals, strategies, and an action plan to address residents’ top concerns, such as the cost of health care, substance abuse, or improving healthy behaviors.

In order to get results that accurately reflect the concerns of the Virginia Beach community, it is essential to get as broad of a sample as possible—which is why we need your help!

I would love to work with you all to get the survey out to the Cape Story by the Sea Civic Association. It is available to take online at www.vbhealth2008.com .

Regards,

Rebecca Payne

Missing Tortoise

Our neighbor on Shore drive has had his tortoise go missing:

“Between yesterday at 2 pm and today at 3 pm, my pet african spurred thigh tortiose has gone missing. I have a pen built behind our house that he stays in during the summer months, however, somehow he either has gotten out or has been taken out. I have had him for over 14 years now and This is a horrible thing for me. Please be on the lookout for a larger brown and beige tortoise. I am offering a reward to anyone who can help me recover my pet. I would greatly appreciate if you could please pass this on. Thank you.

Best Regards,

Adam Morgan (2633 Shore Drive)

Vandalism at Park

Sometime over the past weekend someone used a black permanent marker in the park to deface the plexiglas on the front of the bulletin board. Also the side and back of the bulletin board, one of the benches, and a trash can was also marked up. It appears that someone was making random figures and doodling not relating to any particular subject. Members of the CSBTS Civic League have painted the bulletin board and replaced the Plexiglas.

Someone must know who is responsible for this.  It is obvious that some individuals do not have any respect for property belonging to others. Parents, please remind all members of your family that use the park to please help us keep the park clean and orderly and to report anyone deliberately doing any damage. The park is for all of us to enjoy.

Please remember to call 911 if you see a crime in action and call 385-5000, option #1,  to report crimes after they have occurred or to report any suspicious activity.
