· Boat Ramp- Permanent Spoils Site– TRAFFIC on Shore Drive, Lesner Bridge Use, Barges on the River.
· Virginia Beach Maintenance Dept Picks up Bay Trash (cans) and has the Key to Oak Street Gate. Fire & Police & Emergency also have a key according to phone conversation. Special Requests to obtain entry through the gate at Oak Street may be made my calling the Maintenance Dept at 373-2843. Requests for Special trash pickups (tires, tree parts, boat PARTS) may be made by calling 373-2843.
· Abandoned BOATS should be reported to the City Police Dept to allow notification to owner.

Farm Fresh Supermarkets in Hampton Roads and Elizabeth City are accepting donations for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund and money received will be designated for Southeastern Virginia Tornado Disaster Relief, a news release says. All the Farm Fresh stores are accepting donations by way of cash and credit cards. Checks should be made payable to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

The command emailed us this morning just shortly before it happened, but we just found out now:

Per our contact at Fort Story, the troops are now expected to arrive for an 8:00 p.m. ceremony.
So let’s start watching for them perhaps sometime after 7:00 p.m.
If you can’t get out to Shore Drive to wave and welcome them, PLEASE make a sign, and put it out on Shore Drive, hang a flag out there, tie a red/white/blue ribbon to a tree in 1st Landing along Shore Drive, anything to show these troops your appreciation.
If we receive any new info., we’ll try to get it to the website asap.
Here is our chance to welcome HOME the Troops on Friday…. I will be sending out updates as I receive them. See You on Shore Drive!!!

At this time, the Soldiers are expected to return in time for a
4:30 p.m. ceremony Friday. However, as the original date and time we’re
pushed back, this too could change from now until Friday. I will keep

Watch for more updates, but as of 4/21, the word is that troops will be arriving approx. 4:15 p.m. on Friday. 4/25. Get out your flags, prepare your signs, and let’s get ready to show these young men and women how much we appreciate their sacrifices.

To Challenge your Va Beach property assessment consider:
How to Challenge your Assessment:
1. Homeowner contacts the Assessors office at (757.385.4601 or 757.385.4912) and speaks with appraiser.
2. Appraiser verifies property information for accuracy and provides homeowner with the sales data that was used to arrive at the assessment.
3. If homeowner would like assessment to be reviewed again, the Assessor mails them a “Request for Reappraisal” form. On this form, the Assessor asks them to list properties that they feel they should be compared to, as well as why an adjustment should be made.
4. When form is received back in the Assessors office, it is given to the appraiser.
5. Appraiser contacts homeowner to schedule a time for a field visit with homeowner, if that is his desire.
6. Appraiser reviews in field and makes a recommendation to the Assessor as to whether assessment should be changed.
7. Assessor makes final approval.
8. If assessment is unchanged the Assessors office mails out a letter stating that the Assessor feels the assessment is justified and will remain as is, along with a list of comparable sales that were used to arrive at this assessment. Information advising them of their right to appeal to the Board of Equalization is provided. If assessment is changed, then the Assessors office mails them a corrected assessment notice.
9. Beyond the Board of Equalization the homeowner has the right to file suit with Circuit Court.
